Disney Baby

I have always been a Disney baby. Since my dad worked in US for almost 13 years while I was growing up, I was so used to watching Disney movies that he often records on a VHS tape and ship them for us.

One of my favorite Disney movie is Aladdin. I have a fondness for characters who have dark black hair - as black as the night. Like Veronica of Archie's and Esmeralda of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. And so as Jasmine's.

And my favorite song:

I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Now I'm in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world
Don't you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath - it gets better
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be

A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me

Cervical Cancer Vaccine Facts

Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11:46 AM

Signed up for the Cervical Cancer Vaccine at the office where I can pay only Php 1500 salary deduction for the first shot.

What Is the Cervical Cancer Vaccine?

The cervical cancer vaccine (also called the Human Papillomavirus or HPV vaccine) protects against the virus that causes almost all cervical cancers.

Cervical cancer affects almost 10,000 women each year in the United States. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in women. The cervical cancer vaccine can save lives, and prevent the fear and the costs related to cervical cancer and abnormal Pap tests.

What’s HPV and How Do You Get It?

HPV is a family of very common viruses that cause almost all cervical cancers, plus a variety of other problems like common warts, genital warts and plantar warts. HPV also causes cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus, and cancers of the head and neck. Women and men become infected with HPV types that cause cervical cancer through sexual intercourse and sexual contact. Most women will be exposed to HPV during their lifetime.

How Can I Protect Myself Against Cervical Cancer?

Regular Pap screening beginning at age 21 or within 3 years of the beginning of sexual activity can detect problems related to HPV infection before cancer develops. And now a new vaccine can provide protection against the HPV virus types that cause 70% of cervical cancer.

If you never get exposed to HPV, you’ll be at extremely low risk for cervical cancer. But, the only sure protection from HPV is lifelong abstinence. Regular condom use can also help prevent spread of HPV infection.

Who Should Get the Cervical Cancer Vaccine?

Guidelines are summarized below:

  • Routine vaccination is recommended for all 11 and 12 year old girls.
  • The vaccination series can be started for girls as early as age 9.
  • Ideally, the vaccine should be given before first sexual contact, but females up to age 26 who are sexually active should still be vaccinated.
  • Vaccination is recommended for girls and women ages 13 to 26 who have not been previously vaccinated. However, a decision about whether to vaccinate a woman aged 19 to 26 should be made based on an informed discussion between the woman and her healthcare provider regarding her risk of previous HPV exposure and potential benefit from vaccination.

Why Is the Cervical Cancer Vaccine Recommended for Such Young Girls?

Ideally, females should get the vaccine before they become sexually active. This is because the vaccine is most effective in girls/women who have not yet been exposed to the types of HPV covered by the vaccine. Girls/women who have not been exposed or infected with these types get the full benefit of the vaccine.

Will Sexually Active Females Benefit from the Vaccine?

Females who are sexually active may also benefit from the vaccine. But they may get less benefit from the vaccine since they may already have been exposed or infected with one or more of the HPV types covered by the vaccine.

Why Should I Get the Vaccine? Why Should my Daughter Get the Vaccine?

Consider that cervical cancer most often affects women during their reproductive years. This cancer robs some women of the ability to bear children and threatens the lives of young mothers.

You may not know anyone who has had cervical cancer. But almost every adult woman knows someone who has been treated for Pap test abnormalities. That is because HPV infection is so common. It is a relief that a Pap test can help find early cervical changes when they are treatable.

Now, women have an important additional option for protection. The cervical cancer vaccine takes prevention a giant leap forward by blocking the first step along the pathway to cervical cancer, HPV infection. Vaccination plus regular Pap tests provide the best protection against developing cervical cancer.

How Is the Vaccine Given?

The vaccine is given in the arm or thigh 3 times—at the first visit, 2 months later and 4 months after that. The best protection is achieved after all 3 shots are given. It is not known at this time whether booster shots will be needed later.

Is the Vaccine Safe?

Yes, the studies show that the vaccine is extremely safe. There are no live viruses in the vaccine. The most common side effects are redness and soreness where the shot was given. Headaches (like when you have a cold or fever) are also common. Fever can also occur. Over-the-counter pain and fever medications will help if you have symptoms.

As with any new medication, safety issues will continue to be monitored.

Are There Girls and Women Who Should Not Get the Vaccine?

You should not be vaccinated if you are acutely ill, if you have a history of allergy to yeast, or if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Risks to an unborn baby are thought to be low, but as with any new medication, there may be unknown risks.

You should get the vaccine if you are in the recommended age group even if you are being treated for an abnormal Pap test or if you’ve had an abnormal Pap test, genital warts or an HPV infection in the past.

Weekend

I enjoyed my weekend with Hunny. Though it was hot and tiring - because of the research we needed to do for the resorts in Batangas and Subic. As well as the venue for our reunion, I must admit that it was nice to stay at home for a change.

Plans for the reunion on the 18th are pushing through. We changed the venue from Adarna Food and Culture (my cousin's resto) to Max's Restaurant in Quezon Avenue. The price quotation that my cousin gave was expensive - and the menu was not even okay. Hunny remembered that twas better to get Max's - so I texted my aunt about it. Good thing she visited the place and inquired, as well as Aberdeen Court. After tallying the number of people and the location and the menu.. they decided to choose Max's. (yipee!)

I had a not so good argument with a fellow QA last Friday. I hate the fact that she assumed that I was the one butting in to their conversation, when in fact, she was the one. I tried controlling my patience because I wanted to be professional but I really did not like the way she acted.. Saturday night, she YM'd me and said sorry. But twas not in my heart to reply, that's why I didn't. Today, at work, she asked me if I was able to get my message. And why I did not reply. I just told her I was busy - end of story.

Swimming will be at Subic. Though am not sure of the location. I need to find the ffg asap: (1) a tankini (2) a dress for the reunion. ahahahahaha

New Hairdo

The reason why I got a haircut was because I like Angelina’s do on her new flick “Salt”
Unlike what some people think –
Dear, hindi lang ikaw ang pwede mag-bangs since hindi ka naman kagandahan para gayahin.. *wink* (feeling mo lang yun)

Holy Week 2010

Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 4:34 AM

is quite and subdued for me. No beach vacation, no out of town getaway unlike the others. Truthfully, I envy having fun in the sun. But knowing that we have had so many expenses over the past few weeks – the Wii and hunny’s two TVs.. plus the upcoming SG trip on July demands me to save.. Sigh!

So I play the Wii to try to compensate for the yoga classes since Thurs and Fri were cancelled since it is vacation. Also, because of the doctor’s orders, Hunny is to stay away from the gym for a week. But hopefully I’ll get to attend Noelle’s class on Wednesday.

I was so excited because Hunny mentioned at breakfast that we were supposed to watch “How To Tame A Dragon” in 3D @ MOA. But I think he changed his mind.

So I looked for things to do – aside from listening to the Eclipse AB again, I am going to watch via streaming this Taiwanese Drama. Received good feedbacks.. Though judgement is yet to be given after Episode 21.

Kipling!

Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1:20 PM

Today is a so-so day. Good thing that I slept early to make sure that I get enough sleep. Since Meralco is scheduling a rotating brown out because they claim that we are out of power supply. An hour per location which started last Tuesday.

The internet was fixed as well. Good thing because I need to finish
the Taiwanese drama I have been watching since last week. Plus I am going to play another FB app called Hotel City.

Hunny gave me a phone pouch courtesy of Kipling (yey!). My first Kipling. Though the color is like bubble gum pink, I still like it because it came from hunny AND it was a gift (need not to be choosy).

Work hours flew like calm waters - calm and steady. I think I will be finish my quota for this week earlier than usual. Coaching session was alright. TL was still smiling. Though I am still trying to discern if it is just a facade. If it is, am not bothered by it. Since what we do is work, and in work, we have to be professional.

Tweedledee made a mistake. And now I am the one to pay for it. It ticks me off. But I won't let it ruin my day. Since I know inside that it was the one who was at fault and not me.

Haven't gone to the gym for this week since hunny still has to rest. Will be accompanying him to the doctor this weekend for an xray since his shoulder muscles are still aching.

Ate Viren already replied about my pauwi. She was able to check out the VS Mist I was looking for. But not the bikini. She told me she's going to look for it again this weekend and if not, she'll just order it online.

Still have no final decision as to where we are going for April 17-18 with Hunny's family. I need to look for another place for my family outing because Khalid and Paulo already asked if they can come with us. I have no qualms about it naman though I haven't asked other members of my family.

Pineapple Wednesday

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 10:22 AM

I was looking forward to a work mode Wednesday. I have had enough sleep despite the brownout and the excessive summer heat not to mention that we don't have any internet connection the whole day.

I came to work with a positive outlook that I will be
able to perform all the backlogs I had for the past 2 days also.

Got a recommendation from Gem about the report I have done for Payroll QA Audits. Pattern came from Emily and I thanked her for that.

What I am fuming about is how stupid and defensive people react about quality. It seemed like they have this demented thinking that quality is established for the sake of messing with operations. How they object to the thought of having somebody check what they are doing.. Well, quality and operations has always been on the opposite sides so I guess it is normal.

Another thing is that - I think Tweedledum and Tweedledee is talking behind my back. My boss not knowing about the process does not help either. Geez.. people here are so immature.

How I have always dreamed of working for this company. I thought it is of good quality and high standards.. Though as of the moment, realization has dawned to me how they lack in the ability to adapt to change and be open for improvements. They all boasts of who they are and what they have that they do not know how to accept their mistakes anymore.

Sigh. Nuff said.
This my world.
Crazy.

Sleepy

I am so darn sleepy. News stated that yesterday was recorded as the hottest day for 2010. And it was very difficult for me to sleep because of the heat. And to add the fact, that I have been sleeping on the floor and not on my bed since March. Summer has decided to start early. And don't get me wrong, I am a warm-blooded person, but I don't like to much heat because it makes me feel nauseous.

Second, my day at work started with a calibration and an interlock. By the time I went back to my desk, the desire to do the audits is not there - no matter how hard I try to concentrate. I ate lunch and burned my tongue since I did not have dinner and was too hungry to eat after the meeting.

And even if I have my gummy worms to keep me company, I am still sleepy.

Maybe this is PMS. I have had tantrums and picked fights with Hunny and my siblings since last Saturday when we watched Clash of The Titans - which by the way, is just a waste on money if you watch it on 3D. Since it is not like a 3D material (based on my own opinion). I should have just picked "How To Train Your Dragon" because it way much better than the former. I almost cried when Toothless fell into the fire just to save his master.

Anyways, I am still in search for an affordable tankini to wear on hunny's family outdoor swimming on April 17-18. I am trying to be on a tight budget. I haven't even saved anything that I am to be proud of for our SG trip. I know that Hunny is struggling since he has bills to pay. I don't want to say "I told you so.." when he looked disappointed yesterday because he has no more money left on his atm. I just want to support him.

We finally fixed the FF credit card mess we had before the Holy Week. Thank God for that. I was beginning to think that signing up for a 12 month contract is a spur of the moment decision. Though I honestly know that it has helped hunny control his weight. And it has given me the chance to attend yoga classes again.

Funny. I claim that I am sleepy but I still have the willpower to write and create this blog. I did not like wordpress since it is so darn difficult to change the themes.. I have also tried tumblr but it is blocked here in the office. I wanna write whenever I could to help channel my thoughts and emotions. I think, this is a good way as well in practicing my writing skills that was long forgotten.

I will try my best to write everyday. And will import my old entries from my previous blogs.
As for now, I will search for a good theme that would satisfy my kikay instinct..
