My 2010 At A Glance, Part 3

My Korean Drama Obsession
I have watched and anticipated Korean films and drama series due to Hunny's influence. My first ever korean film was My Sassy Girl (Director's Cut) followed by Il Mare and Windstuck. Fabulous acting from Jun Ji-hyun. From then till now, by asking Hunny to download it or buying dvds in Quiapo, I have fed this hobby. I have even learned and understood a few Korean words and am downloading them myself. I even have a collection of the following series:
  • 1 Percent Of Anything (2003)
  • Lovers in Paris (2004)
  • Stairway to Heaven (2004)
  • Full House (2004)
  • A Love To Kill (2005)
  • Only You (2005)
  • Exhibition of Fireworks (2006)
  • Goong (2006)
  • Coffee Prince (2007)
  • Goong S (2007)
  • Boys Over Flowers (2009)
  • You’re Beautiful (2009)

I have always looked for dramas with light plots - funny and romantic. I try to stay away from heavy dramatic plots. That is why the only drama of that sort that I kept was Stairway To Heaven. This never fails to make me cry whenever I do a marathon.
This year though, I have watched a total of four dramas. Three made me kilig. The first one I watched just because of Lee Min Ho. Poor plot though and his partner was way older than him.

Personal Taste (2010)

Jeon Jin Ho is a straight guy who pretends to be gay in order to become Park Kae In's roommate. His hobbies include organization and ironing, and he’s known for his stoic poker face. He’s a stickler for cleanliness, but he also has a talent for figuring out a women’s feelings. Kae In is very trusting even though she has a habit of being betrayed. However that doesn't stop her from giving people the benefit of doubt and Jin Ho is no different. How will Kae In react when she finds out that her gay roommate is not actually gay at all and that he has fallen for her?

Playful Kiss (2010)

Based on the popular manga, Oh Ha Ni is a clumsy student who falls for the perfectionist, Baek Seung Jo. However, Seung Jo is indifferent towards her and rejects her love. When Ha Ni's house collapses, she and her father moves into his long-time friend's house. It turns out that Seung Jo is the friend's son and Ha Ni is given the opportunity to be near the guy she loves. Will she be able to move Seung Jo's heart?

Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010)

Sungkyunkwan Scandal is set in Sungkyunkwan University in the late Joseon era during the reign of King Jeongjo, revolving around the exploits and love stories of four youths. When her younger brother's illness worsens and their family is in danger of being evicted from their house for lack of money, Kim Yoon Hee enters the school under his name, disguised as a boy in her desperation to support him. There, she becomes friends with the intelligent and upright Lee Sun Joon, the playboy Goo Yong Ha and rebellious Moon Jae Shin.

Secret Garden (2010)

Kim Joo-Won (Hyun-Bin) is from a wealthy family, smart and good looking. He runs the luxurious Loel Department store, which his family owns. Oska (Yoon Sang-Hyun) is a popular singer around Asia, but he doesn't have musical talent. He is also a womanizer. Joo-Won and Oska are also cousins and highly competitive towards each other.

On a request by Oska, Joo-Won goes to pick up actress Park Chae-Rin from a shooting set. Joo-Won mistakes stunt woman Kil Ra-Im (Ha Ji-Won) for Park Chae-Rim and takes stunt woman Ra-Im to a hotel. Oska made the request in an attempt to prevent Park Chae-Rin from revealing their relationship to the press. At the hotel, Joo-Won discovers that the woman he picked is not actress Park Chae-Rim but a stunt woman. During this time, Joo-Wan starts to experiece strong feelings for the fiesty stunt woman, even though she isn't his type. Joo-Won seeks out beautiful woman who comes from wealthy backgrounds so eventually she can support him. Nevertheless, Joo-Won can't stop thinking about Ra-Im.

Later, Joo-Won sneaks into an action school to watch Ra-Im. Meanwhile, Ra-Im tries her best to ignore Joo-Won, because she knows Joo-Won is on another social level from her. Nevertheless, Ra-Im can't help to feelings for Joo-Won.

Yoon Seul (Kim Sa-Rang) and Oska are ex-lovers, but they can't forget each other. Then one day, Seul meets Joo-Wan on a blind date. Even though Joo-Won is clear that he doesn't have interest in her, Seul pursues Joo-Won. Seul knows Joo-Won is Oska's cousins and wants to use Joo-Won to get under Oska's skin. Seul then manages to become the director for Oska's next music video. The video shoot takes place on Jeju Island.

Meanwhile, stunt woman Ra-Im is a fan of Oska's music and wins a contest to go to Jeju Island with Oska himself. Ra-Im also wants to take part in Oska's music video. Joo-Won learns that Ra-Im won the contest to spend time a romantic trip with Oska and decides to follow them to Jeju Island.

On Jeju Island, the main participants all gather. While riding bicycles in the mountains, Ra-Im somehow gets separated from Joo-Wan and Oska. Joo-Won frantic over Ra-Im's disappearance goes back to look for her. Joo-Won is able to eventually find Ra-Im and they then come across a mysterious restaurant in the woods named "Secret Garden". Even stranger, the owner of "Secret Garden" seems to know Joo-Wan and Ra-Im. The owner gives bottles of flower alcohol to Joo-Won and Ra-Im. That night, Joo-Won and Ra-Im drink the bottles of alcohol separately. The next morning, Joo-Won and Ra-Im discover that their souls have been exchanged!

And others that have finished for 2010 and I am still considering of watching them.. Or maybe not.
  • My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (2010)
  • The Fugitive : Plan B (2010)
  • Mary stayed out all Night (2010)
I hope to see more good dramas this year. I must admit that watching them was a great stress-reliever for me.
